Admission to Stanford University is selective and competitive and is based on a holistic review of application materials. The Engineer degree program requires a minimum of two years of full-time graduate study, or a minimum of 90 units beyond the BS degree. Students must be admitted to candidacy and must complete a thesis. A student with an M.S. in Civil Engineering may satisfy the requirements of the Engineer in Civil and Environmental Engineering degree by completing an additional 45 unduplicated coursework and research units for a total of 90 quarter units of full-time graduate study (or equivalent part-time graduate study). Engineer candidates must submit an acceptable thesis (12-15 units) and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. The program of study must be approved by a faculty member in the department.
